Mpumalanga Taxi Boss Joe ‘Ferrari’ Sibanyoni Arrested in Extortion Case

Prominent Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe 'Ferrari' Sibanyoni has reportedly been arrested in connection with an extortion investigation. According to police, Sibanyoni and two other suspects were taken into custody by organised crime officers on Tuesday morning, while a fourth suspect is still being sought.

The case is linked to alleged extortion charges opened in 2025, with reports claiming a businessman in the mining sector was allegedly targeted for millions of rand. Authorities say the suspects are expected to appear before the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.

Sibanyoni, widely known as “Ferrari” because of his flashy lifestyle and luxury cars, has often been linked to controversy surrounding taxi violence, organised crime allegations and the so-called “Big Five” cartel. His name has also surfaced during testimony at the Madlanga Commission, which is investigating corruption and criminal networks within parts of South Africa’s law enforcement system.
